Justin recruited me to make some more gifts for some machinist friends in the form of quilled logos. Each was challenging in its own way, but I think they'll be appreciated!
The logo for Confounded Machine looks pretty simple, but the super straight lines made it difficult.
The first part of the outline went pretty smoothly, but as I added other layers, it began to warp. I had to continually stop to reshape the outline.
To fill the inside, I used a shiny purple paper with iridescent gilding to resemble the space-like background of the logo.
The inside layer is a smaller width than the outline, so it adds very subtle color.

The next logo that I worked on was for Proteum Machining. The company is based in Arizona and one of the shirts that Justin has from Proteum Machining features the full name filled in with the AZ flag.
I planned to do the logo with the AZ flag as the color fill, but after I sketched it out, I thought it might look pretty cool to do the whole flag with the logo hidden within it.

I outlined the logo in black and filled it in with the colors of the flag.
I filled the background with slightly lighter colors. If I were to do it over, or do something similar, I would outline the logo with white paper to help it stand out a bit more.
I actually ripped out the yellow and blue from inside the letters and replaced them with darker colors to make sure the logo could be seen.
Justin is going to machine a frame for this one and for the logo that I made for his good friend at Zappetini Consulting.
For this one, I began by printing out the logo and adhering it to a painted background, so that I could get the letters just right.
I outlined the letters in gold-edged paper and filled in the C with layers of the same.
For the Z, I made quilled marquise shapes.
To fill in the background, I began by creating some shapes out of shaped marquise quilled pieces.
This filled in some larger spaces, which made it easier to then fill in the rest.I know it means a lot to Justin, and I'm sure they'll be appreciated by their recipients, too!
