Dream

For years, I've loved drawing the sleepy man in the moon.  That inspired me to create a piece around the word 'dream.' 

This is one of my first attempts at quilling letters. I wrote out the word in 1/8 inch paper, with the background paper being the same color. Then, I created the moon, following lines that I had sketched. Finally, I filled in the DREAM.

Overall, I really love this piece. Not bad for a first attempt at letters! The moon is my favorite part. I also had really loved that the letter outlines were done in the same color as the background paper. 

Unfortunately, the background paper was not colorfast and over some time, it faded in the sunlight. :/ Lesson learned! :)

Update! This Fall, 2023, while I was getting some pieces ready for the craft fair at the Solon Fall Festival, I decided to reframe this piece.

I cut out around the design in somewhat of a cloud shape.

I had a frame and mat from an old family photo. I inserted my newly cut piece into the mat and tried it on several backgrounds.

I liked it best in front of the artwork hanging in my living room, but obviously that's not practical!

Ultimately, I decided on a navy polka dot background similar to the mat on a quilled sunshine piece that I have hanging in my guest room. I'm so glad I was able to bring new life to this work!
